Patient Satisfaction with Hospital Care in Rhode Island
In 1998, the Rhode Island General Assembly passed a law which established the Rhode Island Health Quality Performance Measurement and Reporting Program. The goal of this legislation is to promote quality in the states health care system by developing a performance measurement and public reporting program. This legislation mandates the public reporting of information on the quality of care in all licensed Rhode Island health care facilities, beginning with hospitals.

This report covers a sample of adult patients hospitalized for at least one night during April through June 2001 in eleven general and 2 specialty-care hospitals in Rhode Island. It focuses on satisfaction with medical, surgical, obstetric, psychiatric and rehabilitation services.
Technical Report 
The Technical Report describes the methods used in comparing hospital results from the patient satisfaction survey. The information comes from patients in eleven general hospitals and two specialty facilities, a rehabilitation hospital and a psychiatric hospital. The report explains the information on the how the evaluation research was conducted such as:
- The survey development and sample survey questions
- How the surveys were administered
- The survey results and how data were analyzed
- What the results mean and explanation of the comparisons between Rhode Island's hospitals and the national average.
Survey Report (Data Tables) 
This survey reports the results for each hospital providing quantitative data and graphs. The report also provides detailed information on the responses to individual survey questions across participating hospitals. This survey provides descriptive statistics such as averages, percentiles and percentages for each of the hospitals surveyed.
