Rhode Island Health Interview Survey

The Rhode Island Health Interview Survey is a telephone survey that collects and analyzes data for all members of contacted households on a variety of health topics including: health status, health care utilization, health care coverage, health behaviors, preventive services, environment, and some health conditions e.g. asthma and disabilities.

The survey is conducted by phone with an adult member of a randomly selected telephone household. The adult with the most knowledge of the health and health care of all household members reports for each household member.

The RI-HIS was administered in 1985, 1990, 1996, and most recently in 2001. The next RI-HIS will be administered in 2003.
