Center for Health Data and AnalysisRhode Island Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS)The Center for Health Data and Analysis conducts the YRBS among Rhode Island public school students in grades 6-12. The survey monitors health-risk behaviors that contribute to the major causes of death, disease, injury, and social problems among adolescents. These behaviors relate to personal safety (e.g., bike helmet use), violence, sad feelings and attempted suicide, tobacco and alcohol use, marijuana and other drug use, body weight and nutrition, physical activity, and AIDS education. Rhode Island YRBS data from 2003 and YRBS trend data from 1997 to 2003 are available as follows: Rhode Island YRBS data from 2001 are available in summary tables Rhode Island YRBS data from 1997 are available in Summary Tables With technical assistance and financial support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), over 50 states and U.S. territories have administered the YRBS as part of the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS). In Rhode Island, CDC and the Center for Health Data and Analysis generate a random sample of high school and middle school classrooms statewide. Students from these classrooms complete the YRBS questionnaire on their own during one class period. Rhode Island data which are representative of the entire population of public high school students are available for 1997, 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2007. Middle school data are also available for 2007. The next YRBS data collection is scheduled for the Spring of 2009 and every other year thereafter. In addition, CDC administers a separate, national sample of the YRBS every odd number year. |
