How to Start a Wellness Program

Support of senior level management is crucial when beginning a worksite wellness program.  Leadership support shows an organization’s investment in the well-being of their employees.  It is essential for integration of health promotion into an organization and instrumental in implementing supportive company policies.  A wellness committee, made up of employees from all areas of an organization, is another important part of a worksite wellness program.  Wellness team members can be volunteers or appointed and oversee the promotion, implementation and evaluation of wellness programs.  Depending on the plan coverage, an organization’s health care provider may be a valuable partner in assessing the health of an organization’s population, assisting with health promotion resources and activities, and determining health care savings related to health promotion.
