Worksite Wellness

Wellness programs at the workplace make sense. People spend a large portion of time at their job.  Employers have a great influence on the environment in which their employees work.  Over 60% of Rhode Island adults are overweight or obese, over 50% do not exercise regularly and 72% do not eat the recommended servings of fruits and vegetables, all of which put individuals at increased risk for many chronic illnesses.  Employees who are more active and eat better report greater productivity and improved job performance.  Governor Carcieri has made wellness a priority.  The Governor’s Wellness Initiative promotes healthy lifestyles for Rhode Islanders, particularly in the areas of tobacco use, physical activity, nutrition, obesity and seatbelt use.
