Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS)
- Purpose: To assess adolescent behavioral health risks.
- Years Available: Biennally in odd years starting in 1995 high school, 2007 middle school to 2007
- Key Information: Health-risk behaviors in adolescents that contribute to the major causes of death, disease, injury, and social problems among youth including: physical activity, tobacco and drug use, perceptions of violence, sexual orientation and activity.
- Data about: Public school students in grades 6 through 12 selected at random who agrees to participate with parental or guardian approval). Similar surveys are conducted nationwide in all states and many major municipalities.
- Collection Process: The data are collected through self-administered questionnaires in classrooms.
- When Data is Available: About 4-5 months after data is collected.
