Lyme Disease

Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever

Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever is a disease that affects dogs.  The American dog tick transmits the rickettsial bacteria to dogs.  The disease typically occurse in purebred dogs and dogs less than three years old.

Symtpoms: Symptoms include fever, chills, headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, hemorrhaging (excessive bleeding) of the mucus membrane, and neurologic symptoms.

Treatment: Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever is usually treated with tetracycline or doxycycline, although chloramphenicol or enroflaxin may also be used.
