Lyme Disease

Preventing Lyme Disease

Because ticks transmit Lyme disease to humans and there is currently no Lyme disease vaccine for humans available, the only way to prevent Lyme is to avoid ticks and tick bites.  There are certain personal protection measures that you can take to reduce your chances of being bitten by a tick.  If you own property, you can use certain landscaping techniques to reduce the number of ticks on your property.  Also, since it takes 24-48 hours for a tick to transmit the Lyme bacteria to a human being, it is important to check yourself for ticks frequently, and promptly remove any attached ticks.
