Tick Testing for Lyme

DNA Based TICK TESTING For Lyme Disease

Tick Removal and Mailing Instructions:

1. Do NOT handle tick with bare hands.

2. Remove tick with forceps or fine tipped tweezers by grasping the head or mouthparts. Pull straight out with steady pressure; avoid twisting.

3. Do not apply petroleum jelly, gasoline, matches, nail polish remover, etc. to the tick in an attempt to remove it.

4. Disinfect tick site with alcohol and wash hands.

5. Place tick in plastic zip-lock baggie.

6. Place baggie in an envelope or other container.

7. Place in a sturdy outer container such as bubble envelope or cardboard mailer.

8. Please include your name, address, telephone number, e-mail address (optional). Let us know if tick was removed from a human or animal and if tick was embedded. Additional info such as how long tick might have been attached is helpful.

9. Make check or money order for $64.00 payable to Connecticut
Pathology Labratories, Inc.

10. Testing is performed on Friday only. To ensure tick arrives on
time, you may need to expedite using overnight mail or courier.

12. A result will be mailed to you the following Monday after testing. The test can still be performed on ticks if they have dried out or been stored in alcohol. If for some reason the test cannot be performed the $64.00 will be refunded.

Disclaimer:
Results are NOT conclusive for individuals having Lyme disease or any other disease. Test indicates whether the tick is infected with the bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi that can cause Lyme disease. Monitor the site of the bite for the appearance of a rash beginning 3 to 30 days after exposure. Seek medical attention if you exhibit any early symptoms of disease which also includes flu like symptoms, fatigue, general acheness, and headache.
