Tuberculosis Program
Tuberculosis (TB) is caused by bacteria called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The bacteria can cause two types of illness, an active form (TB disease) and a latent form (latent TB infection or LTBI). In Rhode Island, there are between 45-65 TB disease cases per year, while LTBI is much more common. For more information, see What is TB?.
