Certified DOE Educators are trained to provide state-of-the art diabetes education information and treatment methods to people with diabetes and other related chronic diseases

• In Rhode Island there is one educator for every 276 people and one DOE program for every 2,334 people with diabetes (DCP, 2006).  Without the state's DOE certification program there would be one educator for every 1,212 people, and one program for every 21,000 people with diabetes.

Interested in becoming a Certified Diabetes Outpatient Educator?
You may qualify to become a DOE Educator if you are:

• A registered nurse, dietitian, or pharmacist

All qualified candidates may apply to take the Certified Diabetes Outpatient Education (CDOE) Course.   This course can run anywhere from six to nine months and includes self-study and classroom instruction.   CDOE Course Schedule.
