Tips for Making Wise Dairy Choices
- In place of 1 cup of milk, you could have 1 cup of yogurt, 1 ½ ounces of natural cheese, or 2 ounces of processed cheese.
- Lactose-free milk, or drinking smaller amounts of milk at a time, may help you if you are lactose intolerant (can’t tolerate milk).
- Remember that the Nutrition Facts label provides information on the calcium content of food products.
Tips for Increasing Low-Fat Dairy Intake
- Drink fat-free (skim) or low-fat (1%) milk as a beverage.
- Use fat-free or low-fat milk or yogurt on cereal.
- Eat fat-free or low-fat yogurt as a snack.
- Choose low-fat cheeses.
For more information about dairy products, go to the Dairy section of MyPyramid.gov.
