Physical Activity

What is Physical Activity?

When you think of physical activity do you think of soccer, running, or going to the gym? Those activities definitely count as physical activities. Do you also think of walking to the corner store, vacuuming, and dancing? Those activities count, too!

Physical activity is anything that gets you moving. Physical activity does not have to be very difficult, and does not require athletic skills. Physical activity also isn’t just sports, going to the gym, or working out.

There are many different things that you can do to be physically active. These include both the typical activities that you need to do during the day as well as activities that you do in your free time. Click on the links below to learn about and get examples of different activities.

  • Activities of daily living – Activities that are physical in nature that are part of your everyday life.
  • Recreational activities – Activities that you do for enjoyment in your free time. This includes structured exercise and personal interests, like skiing or dancing.

There are also different types of physical activities that are components of physical fitness.
