Initiative for a Healthy Weight

Mike Meyerheim: A true success story

Mike struggled with his weight for years and fell victim to Mike Meyerhaimmany of the trendy weight loss plans. After watching an episode of the Dr. Phil show, Mike decided to follow along as a group of participants set out to lose weight and be chronicled on TV. After making some lifestyle changes, the pounds started coming off. As Mike puts it, “ no drugs, no pills, no stapling, no tying. It was understanding what food is, what to take in, and how to exercise.” Mike has lost nearly 200 pounds by improving his diet and exercising regularly.

But Mike wasn’t satisfied there. He knew that if he could do it, others could too. He committed himself to helping others learn how to fit healthy eating and physical activity into their lives. He is now a support group leader working with many local YMCAs to offer a 10-week program that empowers participants to make healthy lifestyle changes. Mike has been so successful at losing weight and helping others do the same that he was featured on Dr. Phil! The successful programs that Mike started (some of which are open to non-YMCA members) employ a team of fitness and nutrition professionals. To date, the program has resulted in participants dropping over 1200 pounds!
