The Rhode Island Osteoporosis Program

The Rhode Island Osteoporosis Coalition

Mission

The Rhode Island Osteoporosis Coalition is a partnership of health professionals and consumers, whose purpose is to share information and foster collaboration among its members and the community.  The Coalition is committed to improving the bone health of Rhode Islanders by:

  • increasing awareness of osteoporosis prevention,
  • increasing access to diagnosis and treatment, and
  • increasing awareness of preventing fractures through fall prevention

through easily understood and culturally competent education, communication, and policy.

Membership and Subcommittees

The Rhode Island Osteoporosis Coalition meets on a quarterly basis.  (Please see schedule below.)  Members are encouraged to actively participate on a minimum of one subcommittee.  There are five subcommittees:

  • Advocacy
  • Public Education
  • Professional Education
  • Surveillance
  • Evaluation

If you have a special interest in the prevention or control of osteoporosis and wish to join the Rhode Island Osteoporosis Coalition, please call Ms. Nancy Sutton at the Rhode Island Department of Health, 222-1383, and give her your name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address (if available), so she may add you to our list of members and send you meeting agendas.  Copies of the Osteoporosis State Plan, 2003-2008: Rhode Island  are also available through the Department of Health.

Meetings of the Osteoporosis Coalition are open to the public. Please feel free to come and listen to members discuss the latest issues in the prevention, diagnosis, and control of osteoporosis.
