The Rhode Island Department of Health offers this resource list, Oral Health Educational Tools & Resources, to teach children and families the importance of oral health. Both U.S. Surgeon General Richard Carmona in the "National Call to Action to Promote Oral Health" and former U.S. Surgeon General David Satcher in his report "Oral Health in America" have affirmed that oral health is essential to general health and well-being. When oral health suffers, so does the ability to learn, grow, and enjoy life.

The guide contains a list of numerous oral health education materials including books, videos, pamphlets, brochures, and web sites. The document is divided into four main sections: Resources for Teachers, Resources for Families and the General Public, Resources for Young Children Through Teens, and Oral Health Story Books for Children
