Violence and Injury Prevention Program Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Collaborative About the Collaborative The Collaborative is:
- funded by the Department of Transportation
- works in collaboration with the Rhode Island SAFEKIDS Coalition to implement bicycle/pedestrian safety programs targeting Rhode Island children
- works in collaboration with the Initiative for a Healthy Weight to promote physical activity among children and adults
- works in collaboration with community partners throughout the state
Our goals are:
- to improve the promotion of children’s and adult’s bicycle/pedestrian activity and safety in our state
- to promote child and adult walking to school and at and to work
- to coordinate the activities of community partner membersto implement bicycle/pedestrian safety program targeting Rhode Island children
- to provide community partner programs with resources such as helmets, and bicycle and pedestrian safety literature for children
- to provide partners with technical assistance to develop community initiatives

- Safe Kids Walk This Way October 5, 2005

- National Safe Kids Campaign event
- Collaboration with Fedex and local elementary schools
- Bicycle Helmet Use Tee-Shirt Promotion
- Local police promotion of youth helmet use on the state’s bike paths and elsewhere
- Woonsocket Walk at Work Day – Fall 2005
- Jamestown Walking School Bus – Fall 2005
- Community Bicycle Rodeos
