Public Drinking Water Information

List of Public Water Programs  

For citizens and for water suppliers - bottled water, consumer confidence reports, public pools, source water assessments, wellhead protection, new source approval, capacity development, loan programs, monitoring, operator certification, sanitary survey program, RI Water Resources Board.

More definitions:

There are three categories of Public Drinking Water Systems:

Community Water System:  A system that serves: 

  • At least 25 year-round residents, or
  • Has at least 15 service connections used by year-round residents.

Other kinds of systems:

  • Non-transient non-community water suppliers serve at least 25 of THE SAME people, for at least 6 months of the year.  Schools and factories are examples.
     
  • Transient non-community water systems serve at least 25 DIFFERENT people for at least 60 days of the year.  Restaurants, hotels and campgrounds are Transient water suppliers.
