Breastfeeding

The Business Case for Breastfeeding

“The Business Case for Breastfeeding” is a new toolkit developed by the US Maternal and Child Health Bureau that outlines the bottom line benefits of supporting breastfeeding employees:

  • Breastfeeding employees miss work less often
  • Breastfeeding lowers health care costs
  • Investing in a worksite lactation program can yield substantial dividends to the company in the form of lower turnover rates, additional health care savings, and higher productivity and loyalty
  • Positive public relations

Lactation support requires few resources. Companies large and small enjoy the biggest savings when they provide the following simple, cost-effective components:

  • Privacy to Express Milk
  • Flexible Breaks
  • Education
  • Support
