Brain injury Association of Rhode Island

The Brain Injury Association of Rhode Island, Inc. is a non-profit organization created in 1983. Their mission is "To prevent brain injury and to enhance the lives of those affected by brain injury". The organization has evolved into a highly functional entity dealing with all aspects of brain injury. It started in a small 400 square foot office space in Pawtucket RI, and has grown into a roomy 1,100 square foot resource center in Cranston RI. From several new computers to hundreds of books, videos, and articles relating to brain injury, the resource center is continuously growing. Under the guidance of executive director Sharon Brinkworth, the resource center strives to provide quality education and referrals to brain injury survivors and caregivers.

Access2Adventure

access2adventure (A2A) is a non-profit organization established in 2002 committed to improving the quality of life for people with physical disabilities. A2A provides unique opportunities to participate in a variety of sports, recreational activities, and adventure travel. A2A is based in Rhode Island and serves the southern New England community.

PARI Center for Independent Living

PARI is a private, not for profit, community based agency whose programs and policies are determined by people with disabilities. It was incorporated in 1980 as a "consumer-directed" Independent Living Center. The staff work with people with any kind of disability to identify goals and provide training, equipment, advocacy, and counseling to help them to achieve their goals. Whether the consumer is seeking medical resources, new ways of performing activities of daily life, transportation, housing, or ways of becoming involved in the community, the PARI Independent Living Center is the individual's professional resource for reaching independence.The Independent Living Center is a unique concept in non-residential resources for the person with a disability.

Ocean State Center for Independent Living (OSCIL) is a consumer controlled, community based, nonprofit organization established to provide a range of independent living services to enhance, through self direction, the quality of life of Rhode Islanders with significant disability and to promote integration into the community. OSCIL has developed this site to assist persons with disabilities, their family and friends, service providers, and the community at large with a variety of information that may help to bring down barriers and increase access in home and the community.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is one of the 13 major operating components of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) . Since it was founded in 1946 CDC has remained at the forefront of public health efforts to prevent and control infectious and chronic diseases, injuries, workplace hazards, disabilities, and environmental health threats. Today, CDC is globally recognized for conducting research and investigations and for its action oriented approach. CDC applies research and findings to improve people's daily lives and responds to health emergencies.

Family voices of Rhode Island

Family Voices of Rhode Island is part of a national network of families and friends of children with special health care needs, including those with chronic illnesses and disabilities. Family Voices provides health information, training, advocacy and support.

Rhode Island Disability Law Center

Rhode Island Disability Law Center (RIDLC) provides free legal assistance to persons with disabilities. Services include individual representation to protect rights or to secure benefits and services, self-help information, educational programs, and administrative and legislative advocacy. The agency administers eight federally funded advocacy programs, each of which has its own eligibility criteria.
