The Vasectomy Project Offers No-Cost Vasectomies

What is a Vasectomy?

A vasectomy is a simple surgical procedure that blocks the tubes that carry the man's sperm. Sperm is a small part of a man's semen. Semen is the milky substance that carries sperm into a woman to make her pregnant. A vasectomy is a very effective method for preventing pregnancy (99.9%). A vasectomy should be considered a permanent way to prevent pregnancy.

Is a vasectomy for you?

A vasectomy is a good option if a man and his partner decide that they have all the children that they will ever want, and prefer a permanent birth control method.

A vasectomy may not be right for you if…

  • You want to have children
  • You are very young and have no children
  • You may want to have more children in the future
  • You are only doing it to please your partner
  • You are making the decision in a rush or under stress

Don't let the cost of a vasectomy stop you.

The Rhode Island Department of Health pays for vasectomies for men who do not have insurance or their health insurance does not cover a vasectomy.

Where can you find out more?
