Office for Family, Youth & School Success (OFYSS)
Our passion is the best interest of children and young people.
All young people have strengths, aspirations and the desire to be nurtured and cared about. Every young person wants to feel needed, valued and safe. We work to build on these important qualities by equipping parents, schools and communities to provide young people with the care and guidance they need to thrive.
Initiatives:
The Office for Family, Youth, and School Success supports the following initiatives:
- Be There for Teens
For parents and caregivers… find information on raising healthy teens and pre-teens.
- School Based Health Centers
For anyone interested in school based health centers in Rhode Island… find information, reports, guidelines, and more.
- thrive - A partnership between the RI Departments of Health and Education.
For teachers, school administrators, and others… find coordinated school health resources on:
- health education
- social services
- health services
- family involvement,
- nutrition,
- health promotion for staff, and
- school environment.
- Family Planning
For the public… find information about Rhode Island’s family planning services, care, education, and counseling services.
Mission:
The Office for Family Youth and School Success works to develop and ensure responsive, inclusive, family-centered systems of care that:
- Support positive early childhood development and school readiness by strengthening community capacity for quality early care and education
- Use community partnerships to connect families and communities with the information and health resources they need to develop healthy, educated children.
- Protect school age children and adolescents from poor health outcomes by enhancing the strengths and resources of communities and schools, and building the assets and resiliency of young people and their families.
- Provide young women and men with access to reproductive health services that give them opportunities to identify and address their health risks and prepare them for healthy, appropriately timed pregnancies and parenthood.
