Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System

PRAMS, the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System, is a population-based surveillance project. The goal is to improve the health of mothers and infants by reducing poor pregnancy outcomes such as low birth weight, infant mortality and morbidity, and maternal morbidity.

PRAMS uses a confidential survey to identify and monitor select maternal behaviors and experiences before, during, and after pregnancy. The information gathered through the survey gives an overall picture of mothers and babies in Rhode Island. The answers from the women who return the survey are used to improve the health of all pregnant women and their babies.

Rhode Island is one of 37 states participating in PRAMS. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provides funding for PRAMS. Here is a complete list of states participating in PRAMS from the CDC website.

"I am very happy that you are interested in the health and well being of mothers and their infants. I am a preschool teacher in our program that services at risk 3 and 4 year olds. I see on a daily basis how intervention and information can help a parent and change the life of a child"
