CDC Guidelines and Recommendations

The Rhode Island Department of Health use CDC guidelines and recommendations as standards for HIV/AIDS programs and activities. A sample of these guidelines and recommendations are listed below.

HIV Prevention

Advancing HIV Prevention
Advancing HIV Prevention contains CDC’s recommendations for HIV prevention activities. The Department of Health uses these recommendations to focus prevention efforts.

HIV Prevention Case Management Guidelines
These guidelines assist health care providers in planning, implementing, and evaluating HIV prevention case management.

Counseling, Testing & Referral

Revised Guidelines for HIV Counseling, Testing, and Referral: Technical Expert Panel Review of CDC HIV Counseling, Testing, and Referral Guidelines (HTML) (PDF) (Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, Vol 50, No RR19;1 11/09/2001)
CDC developed these guidelines with policy makers and service providers to guide the provision of HIV counseling, testing, and referral services. Rhode Island law states that anyone providing HIV testing must also provide pre- and post-test counseling. Project REACH offers training on HIV counseling and testing.
