Training & Capacity Building

Project REACH
Rhode Island’s capacity building program, Project REACH, has been in existence for over 6 years. Focusing on community development, Project REACH (Relating, Exchanging and Capacity Building for HIV Prevention) seeks to develop standards for HIV prevention jointly with community partners.

Since its inception in 1996, REACH has trained hundreds of individuals and has consulted with numerous community-based organizations in Rhode Island. Project REACH trainings are designed to meet the diverse needs of the prevention community, treatment providers, and HIV prevention managers.

For a list of trainings, go to RICPG’s Project REACH webpage or contact Jenn Steinfeld, Project REACH Coordinator, at 401-521-5759 x117.

HIV Prevention Capacity Building Assistance

The Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) developed a program to deliver sustained and coordinated capacity building assistance (CBA) to community-based HIV prevention programs. CBA is a process that builds core competencies essential to increasing the effectiveness and sustainability of HIV prevention within an organization or community. CBA helps community programs implement effective HIV prevention activities. Many of the Project REACH programs are provided with CBA assistance.

The Provider Directory pdf is part of the process of implementing the CBA program. It was developed as a resource guide for CDC staff and CDC-funded CBA providers to increase access and coordination of services. The Directory lists all of the 31 CBA providers and includes information on the history of each provider organization, their organizational accomplishments and highlights, and a description of each CBA project. The Directory also highlights the CBA priority area(s), collaborating partners, target populations, and geographical service areas covered by each project.
