Architectural Design Guidelines

Effective January 1, 2007, the Department has adopted the 2006 edition of the American Institute of Architects Academy (AIAA) "Guidelines for Design and Construction of Hospital and Health Care Facilities" for all licensed facilities where the current regulations for Hospitals, Nursing Facilities, and Outpatient Ambulatory Care Facilities stipulate, by reference, compliance with the 2001 edition of the "Guidelines for Design and Construction of Hospital and Health Care Facilities." All new plans for new construction, or the renovation, alteration, extension, modification or conversion of an existing facility or units within the facility are to meet the 2006 AIAA guidelines. Additionally the phrase, "..reviewed by a licensed architect, acceptable to the Director of Health " as indicated in the Hospital, Nursing Facilities, and Outpatient Ambulatory Care Facilities regulations, is hereafter defined as any architect with a current RI registration number and working under a current RI Certificate of Authorization. A separate listing will no longer be posted on the Facilities Regulation webpage.
