Accreditation Status Categories

There are seven categories of accreditation. Listed below are the categories and results of surveys conducted nationally in 1998.

(The highest accreditation decision awarded to a health care organization that has demonstrated exemplary performance overall.)

(The determination that an eligible organization meets applicable Joint Commission standards in all performance areas)

(Accreditation decision given to a health care organization that generally meets the standards, but does not meet certain important standards in at least one performance area. Most organizations fall into this category. In order to remain accredited, they must achieve compliance with the identified standards within a specified period of time.)
