Hospital Information for the Public

Leadership

The goal of the leadership function is for the hospital’s leaders to use a framework to establish health care services that respond to community and patient needs.

  • The leaders provide for hospital planning.
  • Each hospital department has effective leadership.
  • Patient care services are integrated throughout the hospital.
  • The hospital’s leaders set expectations, develop plans, and manage processes to measure assess, and improve the quality of the hospital’s governance, management, clinical, and support activities.

Strategic Planning

This area reflects an evaluation of the mission, vision, and values of the hospital; strategic and other plans for carrying out the hospital's mission; patient care services that are responsive to the needs of the community; and the allocation of human and other resources.

Department Leadership

This area reflects an evaluation of how effectively the hospital's leaders help create an environment that enables the hospital to fulfill its mission. Surveyors assess how department directors carry out their responsibilities. These responsibilities include ensuring a sufficient number of qualified and competent staff to provide care; and improving the department's performance.

Integrating and Coordinating Services

This area reflects an evaluation of the integration and coordination of services throughout the hospital. Leaders foster communication and collaboration within and among departments on patient care policies and procedures.

Leaders' Role in Improving Performance

This area reflects an evaluation of the activities performed by leaders to improve the quality of the hospital's governance, management, clinical, and support activities.
