This category pertains to the activities of the nurse executive.
- Nursing services are directed by a nurse executive who is a registered nurse qualified by advanced education and management experience.

- The nurse executive has the authority and responsibility for establishing standards of nursing practice.

- Nursing policies and procedures, nursing standards of patient care, and standards of nursing practice are approved by the nurse executive or a designee(s).

- The nurse executive and other nursing leaders participate with leaders from the governing body, management, medical staff, and clinical areas in planning, promoting, and conducting organizationwide performance-improvement activities.
