Nursing Home Information for Consumers
Administration Category
Criteria in the administration category concern the overall administration and management of a nursing home. A facility must be administered in a manner that enables it to use its resources effectively and efficiently to attain or maintain the highest practicable physical, mental and psychosocial well-being of each resident.
- Efforts are made by the facility to resolve grievances the resident may have, including those with respect to the behavior of other residents.
- The facility must make the results of the most recent survey available for examination in a place readily accessible to residents and must post a notice of their availability.
- The facility provides medically related social services to residents.
- The services provided or arranged by the facility must be provided by qualified persons in accordance with each resident's written plan of care.
- Each resident receives adequate supervision and assistance devices to prevent accidents.
- The facility has sufficient nursing staffing to provide nursing and related services that meet resident identified needs.
- The facility provides physician services.
- The facility must establish and maintain an infection control program designed to provide a safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment and to help prevent the development and transmission of disease and infection.
- The facility must ensure that all nurse aides meet competency evaluation requirements.
- The facility must complete a performance review of every nurse aide at least once every twelve months and must provide regular in-service education based on the outcome of these reviews.
- The facility has a medical director as the coordinator of medical care.
- The facility ensures that resident and facility records are well maintained, complete, and accessible for review by regulatory agencies.
- The facility maintains a quality assessment and assurance committee that develops and implements plans to correct quality deficiencies.
