The Division of Emergency Medical Services in conjunction with the Ambulance Service Advisory Board is responsible for the planning, development and administration of a comprehensive statewide plan for emergency medical services. The Department establishes minimum standards for licensing, vehicles, equipment for vehicles, personnel, training, communications and the treatment of acutely ill or injured persons by ambulance and rescue personnel. The Division is responsible for data collection and analysis of the Rhode Island EMS Ambulance Run Report, the administration of the Comfort One pre-hospital EMS Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) Program and the conduct of the Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMS-C) grant program as contracted to Rhode Island Hospital.

EMT-Basic Examination Information:

Please be advised that the EMT-Basic examination is no longer being administered at the Department of Health. The examination will be administered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and you will be able to take the examination on-line. Registration is limited to this allocated time only and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Examination session will be closed when enrollment levels are reached. Registrants whose paperwork is received after enrollment is met will be notified and scheduled for a future date.

All exams to be held in the Health Department Auditorium at 9:00 AM unless otherwise notified. Proof of identity is required by use of a photographic identification card. No one will be admitted to the examination after 9:10 a.m.
