Office of Health Professionals RegulationAdvisory Council of MidwiferyCouncil Members | Meeting Dates Disciplinary Actions | Rules and Regulations Midwifery is the independent management of care of essentially normal newborns and normal females, antepartally, intrapartally, postpartally, and/or gynecologically, occurring within a health care system which provides for medical consultation, collaborative management or referral. The Advisory Council on Midwifery is composed of seven (7) members: two (2) physicians, three (3) midwives and two (2) consumers. The Advisory Council meets every other month. The Council serves in an advisory capacity to the Director of the Department of Health in matters pertaining to the licensing of midwives and the practice of midwifery including, policies affecting examination, qualifications, issuance and renewal, denial or revocation of licenses, and the development of rules and regulations.
