Bacterial Meningitis and Invasive Respiratory Diseases (BMIRDs) such as group A streptococcus and pneumoccal disease may, in certain cases, invade the blood stream and other tissues in the body, causing life threatening and even fatal illness. BMIRDs include the following pathogens:
