RI Health Department Notice: Bogus Food Inspector

The RI Department of Health, Office of Food Protection has recently received complaints of an individual falsely claiming to be a food inspector. Reports described someone arriving at a restaurant to conduct a food inspection without presenting identification and someone calling an establishment to schedule a food inspection. It is unclear if these incidents are related.  However, this person(s) is not an official food inspector with the RI Department of Health.

Please be advised that RI food inspectors arrive at establishments unannounced and present proper identification and credentials. To verify the identity of a food inspector or if you have any questions, please contact the Office of Food Protection at 222-2749.
