Health Department Lifts Boil Water Advisory for North Kingstown

Providence, September 3, 2003: Those served by the Town of North Kingstown Water System no longer have to boil drinking water. Coliform bacteria testing for three consecutive days commencing on Sunday, August 31st through Tuesday, September 2nd has shown that the water in the distribution system is free of coliform bacteria.

The Juniper Hill tank, which was found to be contaminated with coliform bacteria was taken out of service on Wednesday, August 27th. Cleaning and inspection of this tank is ongoing. The distribution system in the area surrounding the tank has been disinfected and flushed prior to the start of the August 31st testing. The tank will not be returned to service until testing has shown that it too is free of coliform bacteria contamination.

For more information, contact Susan Licardi of the Town of North Kingstown Water office at (401) 294-3331, extension 230. Information is also available during business hours from the Rhode Island Department of Health, Office of Drinking Water Quality at (401) 222-6867.
