Health Department’s Diabetes Program Receives National Award; RI Achieves National Objective for Diabetic Eye Exams

Providence, Rhode Island, February 25, 2005, - The National Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recently recognized t he RI Department of Health’s Diabetes Prevention & Control Program for increasing the percentage of persons with diabetes who receive the recommended eye exams. The award, given by the CDC Division of Diabetes Translation, was for achieving the national Healthy People 2010 target for preventing eye diseases related to diabetes. Rhode Island was one of 18 states and territories to receive a recognition plaque.
