Middletown Sewer Break- Update

4:25 pm

Due to a sewer break in the waste water force main that runs on Memorial Boulevard form the Wave Avenue Pump Station in Middletown to America's Cup Avenue in Newport, near Red Cross Avenue, the Department of Health requests that residents of Middletown minimize the use of water.

We are trying to keep the drainage volume as small as possible because we expect sewage to spill out of the Wave Avenue Pump Station on Memorial Boulevard in Middletown.

What to do if you live in the affected area:

- Avoid using water unless absolutely necessary
- Do not do laundry, do not run the dishwasher, flush toilet only if absolutely necessary, abstain from shower if at all possible.

HOWEVER - drinking water is safe. There is no need to boil water at this time.

Easton's Beach and the Atlantic Beach Club Beach have been closed until further notice.

Watch the Health Department Website www.health.ri.gov for updates.

This advisory will be in place until further notice.
