HEALTH and Wayland Square Surgicare, Inc. Reach Agreement on Charity Care

Wayland Square will donate $100,000 in cash and $100,000 in equipment over the next 12 months.

The Rhode Island Department of Health (HEALTH) is pleased to announce that Wayland Square Surgicare, Inc. and HEALTH have entered into an agreement regarding the provision of charity care. Wayland Square Surgicare, owned by HealthSouth Corporation, is a licensed freestanding ambulatory surgery center located in Providence, Rhode Island.

As part of a resolution with the Department regarding conditions in its original certificate of need, granted in 1992, Wayland Square Surgicare has agreed to donate (1) $100,000 in cash, and (2) medical equipment and supplies with a value of $100,000 over the next 12 month period to one or more charitable entities in Rhode Island whose mission is to provide healthcare services to the medically indigent.

Dr. David Gifford, Director of Health, said, "We are very pleased with this agreement; this is a positive resolution that will benefit many people in Rhode Island who otherwise might not have received the care they need."
