Health Department Presents Community Partnership Award to Diane Lemoine of CVS/pharmacy Corporation

Today the Rhode Island Department of Health (HEALTH) presented Diane Lemoine of CVS/pharmacy Corporation with a Community Partnership Award. HEALTH's Community Partnership Award is presented to individuals and groups who engage in exceptional community efforts that support the mission of the Health Department.

In 2000, a partnership was created among CVS/pharmacy, area hospitals, and HEALTH's Women's Cancer Screening Program to increase access to breast cancer screening for low-income, uninsured women through hospital-based screening events. For each event, Ms Lemoine worked as the liaison between HEALTH and CVS. As a result of her efforts and commitment, 16 events have been coordinated with Kent Hospital, Rhode Island Hospital, and Fatima Hospital and over 1800 women have been screened through the breast cancer screening events, diagnosing 11 breast cancers.

Ms Lemoine also volunteered her time at many of these events to register women for the screenings. Her commitment to this initiative provided the Women's Cancer Screening Program with essential funding needed to conduct activities associated with each event. HEALTH thanks Ms. Lemoine and acknowledges that without her support, these 16-screening events would not have been possible.
