First Rhode Island Sports and Fitness Expo for People with Disabilities, Their Families and Their Friends To Take Place May 12, 2007
The Rhode Island Department of Health, The Rhode Island Governor’s Commission on Disabilities, the National Disability Sports Alliance of Rhode Island, Access 2 Adventure and CVS/pharmacy will host the first annual Rhode Island Sports & Fitness Expo for People with Disabilities, Their Families and Friends. The Expo is a participatory experience for individuals of all ages with disabilities as well as those who are not disabled. Attendees will have the opportunity to try a variety of activities ranging from rock climbing and scuba diving, to indoor boccia, wheelchair basketball and other sports, fitness and recreational activities. Many of the games and activities include friends and family members to demonstrate new and fun ways to play together. All activities will promote health, wellness and a more active lifestyle.
The Expo is free and requires no pre-registration. It will be held at Rhode Island College Recreation Center, 600 Mount Pleasant Ave., Providence, Rhode Island on Saturday, May 12th, from 10 am until 2 pm.
Other health and sports related organizations from Rhode Island and Southern New England will be present to provide information about their services and a variety of sports, fitness and recreational programs. Providence “City Year” youth are volunteering their time to help make the festivities a success.
