Beach Water and Pool Testing
To assure the safety of recreational waters in the state by testing beach water and swimming, spa and therapy pools samples for bacterial contamination.
What we do
Perform the enumeration analysis of enterococci bacteria from fecal contamination in beach water primarily when public and private beaches are open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Report the beach testing results by 3 pm for the press release the day after sample collection.
Perform heterotrophic plate count (HPC) analysis of total bacterial in samples collected by RIDOH from hotel, recreational, athletic, and therapy facilities.
In 2016, 2657 beach samples and 384 pool samples were tested.
