Mission

To assure the safety of food supply by testing food products for microbiological and chemical contaminants.

What we do

  • Test food products and ingredients implicated in investigations of foodborne illness
  • Identify and quantify microbiological and chemical food contaminants following strict international quality standards.
  • Test food collected during routine state surveillance of manufactured food products.
  • Report food test results to the electronic repository (eLexnet) maintained by the FDA.
  • Participate in the Food Emergency Response Network (FERN), a network of qualified laboratories that respond to food contamination threats to the national food supplies.

Accomplishments

  • Food testing and successful collaboration with the RIDOH Centers for Food Protection and Acute Infectious Disease Epidemiology protects Rhode Island from food borne illness by collaborating successfully.
