To assure the safety of food supply by testing food products for microbiological and chemical contaminants.
What we do
Test food products and other samples (e.g. swabs of surfaces used in food preparation) implicated during investigations of foodborne illness or collected during routine state surveillance of manufactured food products.
Identify and quantify microbiological and chemical food contaminants following strict international quality standards.
Report food test results to the electronic repository (eLexnet) maintained by the FDA.
Participate in the Food Emergency Response Network (FERN), a network of qualified laboratories that respond to food contamination threats to the national food supplies.
In 2016, the Food Testing Program received national accreditation for complying with ISO/IEC 17025:2005 standards by the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB).
