Private Well Program

Mission

To protect and promote the health and safety of Rhode Islanders and our visitors, who drink water from a well. To ensure that required well testing is carried out as per regulation and that the well-owning public is educated as to what testing is recommended for routine maintenance of their well.

What We Do

• Educate well owners and consumers of well water about what should be tested for and when to ensure the quality of their water supply. (more)
• Train and provide guidance to professionals associated with the fulfillment of the Private Well Regulations.
• Oversee licensing of Private Well Samplers and Interpreters to assure consistency and correctness are followed through for required testing.
• Collect, analyze, and share interpreted results of private well testing with the public. (more)
• Collaborate with other agencies and organizations associated with ground-water and wells in Rhode Island to provide integrated rules, regulations, and recommendations.
