Tobacco Control Program

Eliminate Disparities Related to Tobacco Use Among Different Population Groups
Strategic Plan for Disparities

""The Tobacco Control Program participated in an important endeavor to develop and implement a strategic plan to “Identify and Eliminate Tobacco-Related Health Disparities”. Rhode Island is one of eleven states that have been awarded a Disparities Grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Office of Smoking and Health pilot this process. The strategic planning process resulted in many strategic planning sessions with a diverse group of stakeholders that are knowledgeable of issues within their constituencies, and to orient participants to the overall goals and objectives of this project.  The final outcome of this project was to formalize a strategic plan for identifying and eliminating health disparities in relation to tobacco use.

Disparities Strategic Plan

As part of the strategic plan, in the coming year, funds will be available for a variety of programs in Rhode Island that target groups that experience greater health impacts related to tobacco use such as racial and ethnic minorities, 18-24 year olds, and the poor.  These projects will reflect some of the goals and strategies of the Tobacco Control Program. When the funds are available, the Request for Applications/Proposals will be posted.
