Key Information

Health risk behaviors in public school students grades 6 through 12 that contribute to the major causes of death, disease, injury, and social problems. Health risk data about depression, sadness, violence, and suicide as reported by public school students grades 6 through 12 on the Youth Risk Behavior Survey.

Key Findings

  • Since 2007, the prevalence of physical fighting among middle school students has decreased.
  • During the past 6 years, 1 in 10 students made a suicide plan.
  • Lesbian, Gay or Bi-sexual (LGB) and students with disabilites are more than twice as likely to feel sad or hopeless than their peers.
